Renovation project in northern France.

In a small village called Oeuf en Ternois in France i spent a year renovating an old villa. It was a significant undertaking which entailed a variety of jobs. We covered all the walls with fabric which was a laborious but effective way to create a certain atmosphere and ambiance. Fireplaces were restored ceilings replaced and brick walls were repointed. I took time to explore this part of France and visit the many picturesque villages in the area.

One incident I remember vividly, in the dining area there was a small whole in the ceiling. We used a broom stick to poke around to see how bad things were only to find half the ceiling falling on top of us. Restoring a house that is over 120 years old can certainly have its challenges .

At Architecture firm Jasmax I was offered the opportunity to stage an exhibition of my sculptural work called Elemental formations. It entailed a range of so called relief sculptures made of Aluminium, brass and lucite.

The area designated for the exhibition was one long corridor leading up to a stairways and lend itself well for the works to be exhibited.

Geometry of a fundamentalist

This exhibition took place in 2011 at Lopdell house in Titirangi, Auckland and what is now Te Uru Waitakere Contemporary Gallery.

The exhibition was in association with the late Peter Siddell. It proved to be an excellent opportunity to exhibit my work alongside one of New Zealand's most iconic painters.

Over a three month period I produced four relief sculptures and one free standing sculpture in a variety of media, predominantly alluminium. The space did not seem to call for more works and the free standing sculpture was able to tie in the works on the walls.
